If you have a dog, they are just not a dog, they are a family, right?  I have read many comments recently of people finding it a little difficult to go on holiday with their dog.  Either the accommodation is not suitable or simply 'no dogs' allowed.  There are many dog friendly places around the country that offer great accommodation for you and your dog.  We have found two websites that offer great advise.

Dogsinvited  & yourdogholidays both offer some great advise, accommodation options and regional guides for attractions, activities and special offers.

We have also found Twitter a great resource for either a one off holiday with your dog or accommodation for your dog while your go off on your travels.

Traveling with your Dog

Dog Travel

Its getting to that time of year again when we pack the car and our beloved pet and off we go around Europe or the UK on our yearly adventure, perhaps camping or in the caravan or maybe in a lodge or other pet friendly accommodation.  So what are the pointers we need to consider when traveling with our dogs & pets?

1. Safety.  Are your pets safe and secure in the car?  There are many products on the market to help with this from suitable travel carriers, to car harness clips & dog crates.

2. Will my dog get anxious or stressed while traveling?  There are many products on the market that can help with car travel anxiety.  However, if in double we would recommend a visit to the vet.

3. Is the accommodation pet friendly?  There may be other dogs around the camp sites for example and a consideration is how friendly your dog it with other four legged friends

4. Do we have enough food with us for our dogs & cats.  Many animals find it a little uncomfortable if food is changed and may take time for adjustment.  You do not want any upset tummies while away on holiday

5. Vet Care.  Do you know where the local vets are?  This is an important point which is often over looked.  Of course we hope to not need them however, it is better to be prepared, even better if it is a recommendation from a friend or family member

6. Lastly, enjoy your holiday.  If you enjoy yourself, we are sure your dog will too

Well crufts is almost upon us and for many it can be the highlight of the year, but what do you really think?  Is is just somewhere for dog breeders to 'show off' their best in breed or do you think a show like this can help highlight and promote not only dog breeds that are in danger but highlight our love of these lovely animals.

Rescue Dogs

As an avid user of twitter we often come across organization and charities who rescue and shelter dogs before they find their forever home.  We would like to give these organizations and the families who have rescued dogs either long term or short term an opportunity to add some comments, advertise their charity and to tell the world what a rewarding opportunity it is to rescue and re-home a dog.  A dog is not just a dog, they are family!

We have come a cross Rochdale Rescue on twitter, a great organization "We work very hard to help dogs that are picked up as strays and are at risk of PTS. We take the dogs on to other reputable rescues or bring them into our care." rochdale-dog-rescue.com

Your Dog & Fitness

It's that time of year again when we all start to think about our health and fitness.  We are all looking to burn off that access chocolate and over indulgence and perhaps that will include your four legged family member who has had a few tip bits to many.  So, why not include your #dogs health & fitness with yours? 

There are many fitness and training classes out there for dog lovers and owners.  Many classes not only teach the dog owners obedience and training but enjoy activities, perhaps over assult causes, walks in the park or woodland.

So lets have a few tips on keeping health and active with your dog...

* Perhaps always keep safety and health at the for front of your mind.  Keep yourself healthy and safe and the same applies to your dog.  If in doubt please consult a doctor and vet.
* Make your activities fun and enjoyable.  If you enjoy your activities then the chance is that your dog will also be enjoying themselves and having fun.
* Plan indoor activities for these wet, cold winter months.  Your activities will become a habit, a good habit and you will continue to enjoy yourself in the summer months to come.
* Start a fresh with food that has been hanging around for a while.  This applies to yourself and your dog.  Start off as you mean to go on.  There are some great companies out there that offer quality dog food at reasonable cost, with great nutritional value and advice.  Check out #twitter for some great companies.
